In today's article from the "Lawyer on the Farm" series, we'll present a range of prospects for the agri-food sector in 2025. This year, the importance of technology, sustainable practices, and preparing for changing environmental and market conditions will significantly increase. The issues discussed below undoubtedly represent a huge opportunity for the development of Polish agriculture.
Automation and robotics
For some time now, we've been observing the growing importance of automation and robotics in agriculture. Farmers are increasingly using robots for agricultural tasks such as harvesting, plant care, and fertilizing. This allows for increased efficiency and precision. Robots undoubtedly reduce production costs and contribute to more efficient work time management. Furthermore, technologies such as soil sensors and drones support crop and soil quality monitoring, allowing for increased efficiency in production processes and minimizing losses.
AI
A major breakthrough in agriculture is the use of artificial intelligence, which analyzes vast amounts of data, forecasts yields, monitors weather conditions, and precisely manages resources such as water and fertilizers. AI-based systems reduce losses resulting from unpredictable weather events or pests. Artificial intelligence is fully integrated with digitalization, which is transforming farm management. Modern systems based on data analysis enable precise resource management, control over production processes, and improved planning. Cloud technologies allow remote access to crop data, facilitating production monitoring and optimization. This allows farmers to better respond to changing conditions and make decisions based on accurate analysis. AI in agriculture will undoubtedly support production processes, leading to increased efficiency and savings.
Climate change
The changing climate poses one of the greatest challenges for modern agriculture. Rising temperatures, as well as more frequent and intense weather events such as droughts, storms, and floods, force farmers to seek new solutions. The future of agriculture will largely depend on the sector's ability to cope with these challenges. Therefore, eco-schemes and renewable energy investments will play a significant role.
Organic food
Rapidly growing consumer environmental awareness is driving demand for healthy food. Therefore, farmers should consider adapting at least some of their crops and production methods by reducing the use of plant protection products and artificial fertilizers. We believe that farmers should follow current trends, as this can increase the profitability of their production.
New sales markets
The opening of new export markets, particularly in Asia and Africa, creates enormous growth opportunities for the agricultural sector. Farmers gain access to new customers, allowing for increased production scale and, consequently, increased profits. On the other hand, globalization also increases market competition, forcing farmers to implement innovative solutions and adapt to international norms and standards. In this context, the ability to adapt and respond dynamically to changing global requirements becomes crucial. Unfortunately, globalization has two faces, as we must also be mindful of the Mercosur agreement, which could significantly hinder the profitability of Polish farms.
The outlook for next year indicates a strong need for transformation in the agricultural sector. We believe new technologies, sustainable practices, and the ability to adapt to dynamic market and climate changes will be key. The future of agriculture will depend on combining innovative solutions with traditional practices, enabling the creation of a more efficient, ecological, and resilient food production system.
We now invite you to read the next article, in which we will discuss the most important changes in the law that will directly affect the agricultural industry in 2025.
