The emergence of a new type of artificial intelligence at the end of November 2022 has received widespread coverage in Polish and international media. There has been talk of a revolution that will significantly impact many sectors of the economy and people's lives. This revolution is ChatGPT, created by Open AI.
ChatGPT is a chat box that uses the GPT-3 language to generate answers to user questions. By utilizing information contained in databases, ChatGPT can conduct conversations with users, propose solutions to various problems, and even write books. And that's not all. Since its launch, ChatGPT has been tested for its learning capabilities in various situations. One of these tests was to determine whether the chat box could pass a university-level exam. The first was the USMLE medical exam, where the chat box achieved a pass score of around 50%. This is surprising, considering the chat box has only been on the market for about five months.
A similar test was conducted at the Wharton School of Business to see if ChatGPT could pass the MBA exam. To the surprise of Professor Christian Terwiesch, who administered the test, the chat performed surprisingly well. It was able to answer basic test questions by analyzing the information it had. Although the chat ultimately didn't achieve the highest score, as Professor Terwiesch predicted, ChatGPT would have been able to achieve the highest score if it had been given hints.
Additionally, ChatGPT is eagerly used by writers and amateurs who, due to a lack of inspiration or skills, are unable to write or finish a book. How can chat not only help writers but also enable anyone to write their own book? By providing a few basic information about the work, they can devise the next part of the story and its details. Moreover, as numerous tests have shown, the chat is already capable of writing books independently, for example, for children. Amazon has noticed this ability, selling books exclusively written using ChatGPT for some time now. This is not surprising, considering that writing a book using AI is cheaper and faster than writing a book by a human. With this in mind, we can conclude that in the future we may see a devaluation of the writing profession and, consequently, the possibility of AI replacing writers.
The use of CzatGPT isn't limited to writing books or passing exams. Microsoft is interested in using chat to operate robots. Chat would issue commands to robots using a simple programming language. This would minimize machine operation costs and speed up work. It's not yet known how well CzatGPT will be able to operate advanced machines, currently operated by experienced engineers. Nevertheless, such a solution would be groundbreaking in the field of robotics.
Considering the above, one cannot help but feel that ChatGPT is bringing revolutionary changes in many fields. Certainly, over time, ChatGPT will be used in increasingly larger areas and on an even larger scale. However, the question arises as to what negative consequences the development of artificial intelligence will bring to humans and what new legal regulations will emerge in this regard.
