Public holidays

According to the recently amended Act, non-working days are Sundays and the following days:

  • January 1st – New Year,
  • January 6 – Epiphany,
  • the first day of Easter,
  • the second day of Easter,
  • May 1st – National Holiday,
  • May 3 – National Holiday of the Third of May,
  • the first day of Pentecost,
  • Corpus Christi Day,
  • August 15 – Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
  • November 1 – All Saints' Day,
  • November 11 – National Independence Day,
  • December 24 – Christmas Eve,
  • December 25 – the first day of Christmas,
  • December 26 – the second day of Christmas.

Public holiday and weekend

If one of the above-mentioned days falls on a Sunday, the employee will not be entitled to the day off. The situation is different if one of the above days falls on a Saturday, in which case the employee is entitled to the day off.

When can an employee take a day off?

According to the Labor Code, an employee is entitled to an additional day off in the same settlement period in which a holiday falls. Typically, a monthly settlement period applies, meaning that leave must be taken in the month in which the holiday falls. It does not matter whether the day off falls before or after the holiday, which falls on a Saturday.
