On August 14, 2020, President Andrzej Duda signed the Act amending the Road Traffic Law and certain other acts. Among other things, the act exempts holders of Polish driving licenses from the obligation to carry them and present them during inspections.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs announced that the mObywatel mobile application will now allow you to have a driving license and check the number of penalty points.

The app contains basic information about driver licenses, which can be shared via QR code. Obtaining a driver's license is still mandatory, but you won't be required to carry it with you during a roadside check.

A big plus of this solution is that the app is free and takes only a few moments to download. Simply install it via Google Play or the App Store.

The amendment to the law allows for the retention of the registration number when a new owner re-registers a vehicle. It will also be possible to:

  • registering the vehicle at the owner's place of temporary residence,
  • online registration of a new vehicle from the showroom by sellers on behalf of buyers.
